Hey sailors,
We'll try and keep this newsletter brief, and report back before year's end with a bit of a 2022 review.
For now, a bit of house keeping: we've decided to streamline our communication going forth! This newsletter will remain the best place to keep up to date with Moonrise Seaweed Co., and we're going to take a break from social media to see whether we can build momentum without too much involvement with Zuckerberg, Musk & the like.
We're also thrilled to let everyone know that we've been successful in renewing our fisheries licence, with an expanded suite of species. We collect small quantities of wild, storm-cast seaweed for research and product development purposes. We only forage in specific zones that have been deemed suitable for this activity, at limited days and times, and never remove more than 20% of the biomass available. At the moment, we're the only operator in South Australia licensed to do this, and we take the responsibility very seriously – our intention is to build our knowledge and customer base to help us succeed in the transition to farming. Keep your eyes on our web store over the next few months, as we're planning to fulfil a common request we've been getting for whole dried food-grade seaweed. We recently invested in a commercial food dehydrator so that we can preserve small quantities of seasonal species to the highest standard.
Lastly, by popular demand we have some new merch available for pre-order! These long sleeve logo tees have been designed for all our fishing, boating, beach combing, paddling, rambling frothers and nature lovers. Made of undyed organic cotton and printed in Australia, this shirt will keep you cool and protect you from the harsh summer sun (if it ever arrives!). Featuring the Moonrise Seaweed Co. logo on the front, and our slogan 'saltwater grown' across the back, your support will bring more awareness to our mission to regeneratively farm seaweed, and proceeds will help us transition to the next phase of operations. We've launched this tee as a pre-order due to the expense of each print run and our desire to be as size-inclusive as possible. By pre-purchasing your shirt, you help us figure out how many of each size to order. We can't wait to get our hands on one of these!
Catch you soon legends,
Chloe & Brad
p.s. If you’re looking to shop seaweed this holiday season, there are plenty of great gift ideas in our shop. Orders made this weekend will get shipped Monday!
