Happy new year, sea bees!
Is 2023 the year of seaweed? Well, we think so!
We have a couple of things to share with y'all before we head off on a bit of a cross country odyssey (more on that in a moment).
On the 13th February we're guest speakers at the 'Resourcing Regenerative Enterprises' workshop hosted by The Food Embassy.
Resourcing can be a real barrier for many regenerative businesses and projects. This workshop presented in partnership with Alexandrina Council and SA Urban Food Network is a great opportunity to start to break down some of those barriers.
If you are wondering where to source funding, what is essential to ensure feasibility and viability and curious to connect with like minded individuals and businesses then this is the workshop for you.
Well worth checking out if you're cooking up a regenerative project here in South Australia.
We'll actually be presenting at the workshop remotely, as we're beyond stoked to be heading down to our old stomping ground of Hobart to attend the International Seaweed Symposium. We're almost 6 years deep into a 'no flying' experiment so we'll be traveling down to the mainland by van and ferry, stopping along the way for Brad to install, speak about and research some art works, and will be gone for the whole month. We're taking inventory along with us though, so the Moonrise Seaweed Co. shop will still be open for orders!
We're hoping to come back to you in February with some learnings from the conference. In addition to us both taking in all the science and tech presented in the main program, Brad will be participating in a First Nations seaweed industry workshop with other First Nations farmers attending from Aotearoa and Canada. We're very much looking forward to linking in with others who are further along the journey of decolonising aquaculture!
On that note, it wouldn't be a January newsletter without a bit of Australiana courtesy of Marrugeku dance theatre (Warning: this video contains depictions of violence, racial abuse, and police, border security and juvenile justice system brutality). If you click on one link from this newsletter, let it be this one.
Ok, that’s it for now. Until next month (ish)!

Wishing you all a fair wind and a following sea as you cruise into the new year.
Keep frothing.
